He had chased her, not with malice, but with an ancient yearning through the labyrinth, coaxing her back from the human world, from the oblivion she had sought. And now, he stood sentinel, his dark, intelligent eyes never straying from her.

Zelda, a creature of shimmering wings and gossamer robes, flitted near her ear, her voice a melodic whisper, a counterpoint to the boisterous pronouncements of the court. "Your Majesty," Zelda chirped, her tiny hands gesturing with animated grace, "the archives are vast. They hold the chronicles of your first reign, a time of unparalleled peace and prosperity. But there were shadows, even then. Those who chafed under a human ruler."
