The air in the woods behind her grandmother’s house always felt different. It was thicker, somehow, carrying the scent of damp earth and ancient trees, a perfume that clung to Elara’s clothes and hair long after she’d left. But today, as she followed the faded ink lines of the map, the air thrummed with an energy she’d never felt before. It was a low, steady vibration, like a secret heartbeat echoing through the rustling leaves. The map, so carefully unfurled in her hands, seemed to glow with a faint, inner light, guiding her deeper into the green shadows.

She’d been walking for what felt like hours, the familiar paths of the woods giving way to denser thickets and gnarled roots that snaked across the ground like sleeping serpents. Her heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and a prickle of apprehension. Grandmother’s stories, always so full of far-off lands and daring adventures, had never mentioned a place like this. A place that felt both impossibly real and utterly magical.

Finally, the map’s markings grew more insistent, leading her towards a clearing she’d never seen before. The trees here seemed to lean in, their branches forming a canopy that filtered the sunlight into dappled patterns on the mossy ground. And there, at the center of the clearing, stood the archway.
