Silas invites Elara to participate in a unique, collaborative art project. It's an opportunity to step outside her comfort zone and engage with art in a tangible, visceral way.
The air in Silas’s studio was thick with the scent of turpentine and something else, something earthy and raw, like damp soil after a storm. It clung to the rough-hewn beams overhead, seeped from the canvases stacked against the walls, and settled into the very marrow of my bones. It was a smell that spoke of creation, of a life lived outside the sterile glow of screens, and it was utterly intoxicating. I’d come seeking answers, or at least a flicker of understanding, and Silas, in his quiet, deliberate way, had offered me something far more potent: an invitation.
“It’s not a commission,” he’d said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the floorboards. He was cleaning a palette knife, the metal glinting in the single shaft of sunlight that pierced the gloom. “It’s a collaboration. A conversation, perhaps.”
My heart had thudded against my ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. A collaboration. With Silas. The man who lived as if the internet had never been invented, whose art pulsed with a life I’d only ever glimpsed in flickering images online. It felt like stepping onto sacred ground.
