Chapter 10
The Shadowy Figure Emerges
As Isabelle delves deeper, she feels watched. Strange occurrences and near misses suggest a dangerous individual is also seeking the family fortune, possibly the one responsible for her parents' fate.
The air in the library, once a comforting balm, now felt thick with an unspoken tension. Dust motes, usually dancing merrily in the shafts of afternoon sun, seemed to hang suspended, as if holding their breath. I traced the faded inscription on the locket again, the cool metal a familiar weight against my palm. Was it just the wind? Or was it something more? A prickling sensation, like a thousand tiny eyes, would often crawl across my skin, making me turn abruptly, only to find… nothing. Yet, the feeling persisted, a chilling certainty that I was not alone in my quest, and that whoever else was involved, they were not seeking answers with the same innocent curiosity that drove me.
