This was the Age of Gilded Dreams, a time the Obsidian Lattice had chosen to reveal, a jewel in the vast, glittering expanse of history.

Elara clutched the Lattice, its cool, smooth surface a stark contrast to the warmth radiating from the world around her. It pulsed faintly against her palm, a silent thrumming that only she could feel. The Lattice had guided her here, a place of apparent beauty, but she knew better. The Weavers of Fate, those insidious architects of causality, had left their indelible mark on every era, and this one was no exception. She could feel it, a subtle dissonance beneath the joyous cacophony, a tremor in the fabric of reality that spoke of careful, deliberate manipulation.

She moved through the throng, her simple, dark tunic an anomaly amidst the riot of color. Her eyes scanned the faces, searching for the tell-tale signs of their influence – the too-perfect smile, the unnervingly vacant stare, the subtle twitch of a hand that betrayed an unnatural stillness.
