The Lattice chooses Elara as its keeper. It promises immense power, but its whispers are seductive, testing her resolve and hinting at darker uses.
The Obsidian Lattice pulsed, not with a sound, but with a vibration that hummed through Elara’s very bones. It was a silent song, a celestial thrumming that echoed the frantic beat of her own heart. She had found it in the forgotten chambers beneath the Chronos Guild, a place of dust and forgotten histories, a place she, Elara, the disgraced chronomancer, was forbidden to tread. Yet, here it was, a sphere of pure, unyielding darkness, shot through with veins of frigid, internal light. It was beautiful, and terrifying, and it had sung to her.
"You are the one," a voice whispered, not in her ears, but directly into the hollows of her mind. It was a voice like grinding glaciers, ancient and vast, yet intimately close. "You have the touch. The resonance."
Elara flinched, her hand instinctively recoiling from the artifact’s cool, smooth surface. The Lattice’s light flared, a brief, blinding flash that painted the dusty chamber in shades of amethyst and indigo. "Who… what are you?" she managed, her voice a shaky whisper.
