The rain, a persistent, melancholic drizzle, had finally relented, leaving Vilnius glistening under a bruised twilight sky. I stood on the bridge, the familiar scent of the Vilnia River a balm to my frayed nerves. The city, the very air I breathed, had been a battlefield for so long, a constant hum of fear and suspicion. It had been Elara. Of course, it had been Elara. The woman who had taught me to see the hidden language in the static, to find meaning in the seemingly random.
