The air in the dimly lit warehouse tasted of brine and desperation. Rain lashed against the corrugated iron roof, a relentless percussion to the symphony of chaos unfolding within. Viktor Volkov, his usually impeccable suit now stained and rumpled, backed away from the overturned crates, his eyes wide with a terror I hadn't thought him capable of. He was cornered, not by a firing squad, but by something far more insidious: the truth.

"It's over, Volkov," I said, my voice tight with a mixture of triumph and exhaustion. The salvaged documents, clutched in my trembling hand, felt heavier than any weapon. Elara's final message, a mosaic of despair and defiance, had led me here, to this forgotten corner of the docks where the whispers of his grand ambition had finally coalesced into damning evidence.

He snarled, a guttural sound that ripped through the din of the storm. "You don't understand. This was for the greater good! For stability!"
