Chapter 12
The Weight of Grace
Grappling with the immensity of divine forgiveness and the responsibility that comes with it. This involves overcoming the temptation to fall back into old patterns of self-doubt.
The weight of grace. It's a peculiar kind of burden, isn't it? Not heavy like stone or sharp like glass, but vast, like the ocean. It settles on you not with a crash, but with a slow, inexorable tide, rising higher and higher until you realize you’re floating, suspended by something far stronger than your own will. And for a while, that suspension is terrifying. It’s the dizzying realization that you no longer have to fight the current, that the struggle that defined you for so long is… over.
I remember standing on the edge of that realization, the salty spray of it on my face. The ‘calling’ wasn’t a booming voice from the heavens anymore, not a sudden thunderclap that rearranged my world. It was more like a quiet hum, a persistent vibration beneath the surface of everything. And it was asking me to *be*. To simply *be* in the light of a love I’d spent years trying to outrun, a love that had, paradoxically, chased me down with relentless kindness.
The Voice of Doubt, of course, hadn't packed its bags and left. Oh no. It was still there, a shadow clinging to my heels, a sneering commentator in the theater of my mind. *“Grace?”* it would hiss, the words like grit in my teeth. *“You think you’ve earned it? You think you’re worthy of this… this cosmic forgiveness? Look at you. Look at all you’ve done. This is just a trick. A temporary reprieve before the real judgment comes.”*
