The necklace's glow confirms Isodole's identity. Her adoptive parents, the prime suspects, are arrested, leaving Isodole bewildered and heartbroken.
The air in the grand hall of the Winter Palace crackled, not with the usual icy static of the north, but with a potent, almost suffocating anticipation. Torches sputtered, casting long, dancing shadows that contorted the faces of the assembled courtiers into grotesque masks. In the center of it all, bathed in the ethereal glow of the single, pulsating artifact, stood Isodole. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird, a frantic rhythm that echoed the frantic beat of the world around her.
The necklace. It lay nestled against the pale skin of her throat, a simple silver chain from which dangled a snowflake pendant. It was a trinket she’d worn for as long as she could remember, a gift from the only parents she’d ever known. But now, under the watchful, desperate gaze of the Queen Mother, the snowflake was alive. It pulsed with an inner light, a soft, warm luminescence that painted Isodole’s face in hues of pearl and rose. It had glowed for her. Only for her.
The Queen Mother, a skeletal figure draped in ermine, her breath a shallow whisper against the frigid air, reached a trembling hand towards Isodole. Her eyes, once sharp and commanding, were now clouded with a grief so profound it seemed to leach the color from her skin. “It is true,” she rasped, her voice barely audible above the murmurs now rippling through the court. “The prophecy… the bloodline… it is yours.”
