The maid's confession raises more questions than answers. Isodole suspects a deeper conspiracy, with the maid merely a pawn.

The Great Hall, usually a place of boisterous celebration or hushed solemnity, now echoed with the chilling silence that followed the maid’s confession. Elara, her face a mask of terror and despair, had uttered the words that shattered the illusion of peace: she had taken Isodole. The guards, their movements stiff and precise, had already led her away, her sobs a fading lament against the stone walls. But for Isodole, the relief of a confession was a fleeting, hollow thing. It didn’t feel like an ending, but a beginning of something far more tangled.

She stood near the grand fireplace, the warmth doing little to penetrate the icy dread that had settled in her stomach. Her gaze swept across the faces of those gathered: her twin sister, Bianca, her expression a complex mixture of relief and something akin to apprehension; the Queen Mother, frail and leaning heavily on her cane, her eyes clouded with a grief that seemed to deepen with every revelation; and Riven, his usual easy charm replaced by a watchful stillness, his gaze flicking between Isodole and Bianca.

“She must have acted alone,” Bianca stated, her voice firm, though a tremor ran beneath it. “A desperate woman, perhaps driven by… by what? Greed? Resentment?”
