Chapter 7

Finding His Voice

5 min read

Leo’s fingers hovered over the keyboard, a familiar tremor running through them. He’d spent hours scrolling through the vibrant tapestry of 'irusikkostyleva,' each profile a window into a world bursting with color and life, so unlike the muted tones of his own village. He’d watched from the periphery, a silent observer, his heart aching with a longing that felt as vast as the digital sky above. Now, the moment of truth had arrived. Luna, with her gentle encouragement and bright, encouraging avatar, had nudged him gently. "Show us what you've been creating, Leo," she’d typed, her words shimmering with warmth. "We're all ears… or rather, eyes!"

He swallowed, his throat tight. His secret. His digital art, a world he’d built in the quiet solitude of his room, filled with creatures born from starlight and landscapes painted with moonlight. It was a part of him he’d guarded fiercely, terrified of judgment, of the possibility that his creations would be met with the same indifference he often felt in the real world. But Luna’s words, and the genuine curiosity he sensed from the other members who had begun to notice his quiet presence, felt like a different kind of invitation.

He took a deep breath, the scent of his mother’s baking a faint, comforting presence in the background. He navigated to the “Showcase” section, a bustling gallery where members shared their creations. His heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. He clicked the “Upload” button, his hand shaking so much he almost missed the small icon. A window popped open, asking for a title and a brief description. He typed, his thoughts a jumble of nerves and anticipation. “Starfall Meadow,” he wrote, and for the description, “Just a little something I’ve been working on.” It felt woefully inadequate, a whisper against the roar of the digital forest.
