My sparkle shoes were practically vibrating on the floor. Today was *the* day. Dance class! Miss Aaliyah said it was called “Red” and it was going to be super, super high energy. My tummy did a little flip-flop, like a tiny gymnast doing a bad dismount. I peeked around the room. Wowza! There were so many kids! And they all looked so… dance-y.

There was Ava Thomas, all serious in a white leotard, her hair pulled back so tight it looked like it might fly off if she sneezed. And Mackenzie! Oh, Mackenzie. She was like a little dance tornado already, twirling and leaping with a grin that could power a whole city. She was a little darker than some of the other kids, like a deep, rich chocolate, and she moved like a gazelle. I felt a little wobbly just watching her. My own sparkly shoes felt a bit too big, and my leotard felt a bit too… regular.

Miss Aaliyah clapped her hands, and her voice boomed like a happy thunderclap. "Alright, explorers! Let's get moving! Today, we conquer the mighty RED!"

The music started, a beat that made my toes tap all by themselves. Miss Aaliyah bounced and jiggled, showing us what to do. We had to leap forward, then spin, then kick our legs out like we were trying to catch a runaway balloon. It was fast! My brain was trying to keep up with my feet, and sometimes it just… didn't.

"RED!" Miss Aaliyah shouted, and we all jumped. I jumped! And then I tried to spin. But my spin was more of a wobble, and my wobble was heading straight for Mackenzie.

*WHUMP!*

I ran right into her! Mackenzie stumbled, her arms flailing like a startled octopus. She didn't fall, not really, but she did a funny little hop and then sort of plopped onto the floor in a heap of giggles. I froze, my face turning a shade of red that was definitely not part of the "Red" dance. Oh no! I’d bumped into the super-dancer!

A tiny gasp escaped my lips. My secret worry, the one that lived in the back of my brain and whispered “not good enough,” started to shout. I’d messed up! I’d ruined Mackenzie’s perfect dance tornado.

Mackenzie, though, just started laughing. A big, bubbly laugh that bounced off the walls. Her dark hair tumbled around her face as she pushed herself up. She didn't look mad. She looked… amused.

Miss Aaliyah, who had seen the whole thing, glided over. She didn't look stern. She looked kind. She knelt down next to me, her eyes twinkling. "Mia," she said, her voice soft but strong. "That was quite a collision! But do you know what that means?"

I shook my head, my wobbly knees feeling even wobblier.

"It means you are strong!" Miss Aaliyah declared, her smile widening. "You have power! You were moving so fast and with so much energy, you almost took Mackenzie down with you!"

Strength? Me? I looked at my hands, then at my feet, then back at Mackenzie, who was now doing a little shimmy on the floor. I didn't *feel* strong. I felt clumsy and a little bit like a runaway train that had derailed.

"But… I bumped into her," I mumbled, my voice barely a whisper.

"And that took a lot of oomph!" Miss Aaliyah agreed. "Sometimes, when we're trying new things, things get a little mixed up. We might bump into someone, or wobble, or even do a little tumble. That's okay! The important thing is that you keep trying. You get back up, you shake it off, and you try again. That's what makes a great explorer, and that's what makes a great dancer."

She stood up and clapped her hands again. "Alright, explorers! Let's try RED again! And this time, let's all put our explorer hearts into it!"

My heart was still doing a little gymnastics routine, but it was a slightly more determined one now. Miss Aaliyah's words echoed in my head: *strength is about trying.* I looked at Mackenzie, who winked at me. Okay, maybe bumping into her wasn’t the end of the world. Maybe it was just… a part of the dance.

The music started again, and this time, when Miss Aaliyah shouted "RED!", I jumped with all my might. I spun, and this time, my wobble was a little less wobbly. I kicked my legs, and they felt a little more like speedy rockets than runaway balloons. I was still a tiny bit off-balance, and my left side felt just as adventurous as my right, but it didn't feel scary anymore. It felt exciting!

I wasn't perfectly in sync with Mackenzie or Ava Thomas, but I was moving! I was leaping and spinning and kicking with all the energy Miss Aaliyah talked about. And you know what? It was FUN! The secret worry in my brain was starting to quiet down, replaced by the thumping beat of the music and the happy shouts of my fellow explorers.

As we finished the "Red" move, I looked around. My left side was definitely on board for this adventure, just like my right. My sparkle shoes felt just right, and my leotard felt like a superhero costume. We were all getting ready for that dance competition, and I was ready too. Maybe not perfect, but strong. And that, I realized, was even better.
