Chapter 8
Shadows in the Sunlight
Despite Lena's presence, the war's echoes persist. Elias finds himself momentarily distracted by phantom sounds, the vibrant sunlight unable to fully dispel the operatic shadows that cling to him.

She draped herself in the vibrant silks of sunlight, painted with the audacious hues of blooming flowers, and then, with a wicked smile, whispered the chilling truths of his past into the unsuspecting breeze. Even now, with Lena’s warm hand a comforting weight on his arm, the sunlight felt like a taunt. For a fleeting second, the familiar, acrid smell of dust and something metallic, something that always made his throat tighten, pricked his nostrils. He heard it too, a low rumble, not of thunder, but of engines, a sound that had been the soundtrack to his nightmares for so long. His grip tightened on Lena’s arm, an involuntary clench that made her turn, her brow furrowed with concern.
"Elias? Are you alright?" Her voice was a gentle melody, a stark contrast to the discordant symphony playing in his head.
