The Night Awakens
The first stars appear. The sounds of the savannah change, replaced by the calls of nocturnal hunters. Salect, from his perch, senses the shift in power.
The sun, a bruised and heavy orb, bled its last rays across the sprawling savannah. Clouds, like smudges of charcoal on a vast canvas, had held the heat captive all afternoon, making the air thick and restless. Every rustle of grass, every distant roar, spoke of the desperate, primal dance of survival that unfolded under the fading light. But in the dappled embrace of the acacia shadows, a different kind of quiet reigned. Salect, a male leopard whose spotted coat seemed to absorb the very essence of the twilight, rested, his powerful muscles coiled but at ease. He was a creature of patience, of watchful stillness, a stark contrast to the frenetic energy that pulsed around him.
