The letter, crisp and smelling faintly of lavender, lay on Eleanor’s dressing table like a fallen petal. It had arrived that morning, nestled amongst the usual household bills and invitations, yet it felt entirely out of place. The elegant script, unfamiliar yet vaguely regal, spoke of an inheritance, not of gold or jewels, but of something far more intriguing: secrets. The letter’s cryptic words, however, had cast a new light on their familiar practice sessions. She found Liam already there, his sleeves rolled up, a smudge of dirt on his cheek. He was grooming Thunder with a gentle hand, his focus absolute.
