With time running out, Elara and her new allies embark on a quest to find the elusive Elder Root, facing natural obstacles and Croft's interference. The fate of the glasshouse hangs precariously.
The air in the glasshouse, usually thick with the comforting scent of damp earth and blossoming life, now carried a subtle undertone of desperation. Elara felt it in her bones, a tremor of unease that mirrored the wilting leaves of the Moonpetal orchid, its once vibrant silver now tinged with an alarming brown. The Elder Root, the key to coaxing it back to health, remained stubbornly hidden, a phantom whispered about in Eleanor’s journals.
“It has to be here somewhere,” Leo, his brow furrowed with concern, swept his flashlight beam across a dense tangle of vines that clung to the glass panes like determined fingers. He’d become an almost constant fixture in the glasshouse since Elara had confided in him, his initial skepticism replaced by a fierce loyalty to her and this extraordinary place.
“Eleanor wrote about it as if it were a familiar friend,” Elara murmured, tracing a faded sketch in her grandmother’s journal. The drawing depicted a gnarled, twisted root, almost luminescent, nestled amongst a cluster of what looked like phosphorescent fungi. “She called it ‘the heartwood of the wild,’ said it pulsed with the same life force as the oldest trees.”
