Chapter 6
A Friend in Need
While navigating the woods, Joy Joel encounters a lost forest creature, a shy squirrel. He kindly helps the creature find its way home, forging a new, unexpected friendship that offers him guidance.
The forest floor, usually a tapestry of vibrant greens and earthy browns, seemed muted under the anxious weight of Joy Joel’s mission. Each rustle of leaves, each snap of a twig, sent a fresh prickle of worry through him. Rose. The image of her pale face, her usually bright eyes clouded with sickness, was a constant ache in his heart. He pushed aside a low-hanging branch, the damp bark cool against his fingers, and whispered her name like a prayer. He had promised. He would find the flower. He had to.

It was beautiful, in a wild, untamed way, but today, Joy Joel couldn’t fully appreciate its splendor. His mind was a crowded room, filled with the worried faces of his village, the coughs of sick children, and the quiet desperation of their parents.
Suddenly, a frantic scrabbling sound broke through his thoughts. It was close, somewhere in the thick undergrowth to his left. Joy Joel stopped, his ears perked. He could hear a series of distressed chirps and rustles, like something small and frightened was trapped or lost. His natural inclination to help, the very essence of his being, tugged at him. He cautiously made his way towards the sound, parting ferns and pushing aside tangled vines.
