Chapter 15
Astro.bet and Inner Cosmos
The 'astro.bet' archive, a place of cosmic data, mirrors the vast, unexplored universe within her own evolving consciousness.
The old wooden shelves of the Kaunas Archives smelled of aged paper and forgotten ink, a scent Danguolė found as comforting as a warm blanket. She traced the faded gold lettering on a thick tome, her fingers dancing over titles that spoke of distant lands and ancient kings. But today, her mind wasn't just on the dusty past. It was also on the twinkling future, the vast, starry expanse she imagined when she looked up at the night sky. She often felt like a wise queen, like Solomon, knowing all the answers before anyone even asked. But lately, a tiny, persistent whisper in her heart told her something was different. She wasn't quite that Solomon anymore.
One afternoon, while wandering through a particularly quiet corner of the archives, where the sunlight slanted in dusty golden beams, she saw it. A flash of impossible color, a shimmering of emerald and sapphire, darted between the rows of books. It was a gazelle, but unlike any gazelle she had ever seen. Its coat was a breathtaking swirl of vibrant green and deep, luminous blue, and as it paused, tilting its head, Danguolė heard it. A song, soft and melodic, seemed to emanate from its very being. It wasn't a song with words, but a melody that tugged at something deep inside her, a feeling of wonder and a hint of something she couldn't quite name. The gazelle, with a flick of its impossibly colored tail, vanished as quickly as it had appeared, leaving only the lingering echo of its song.
The gazelle's song stayed with Danguolė. It was like a secret melody only she could hear, a tune that hummed beneath the surface of her everyday thoughts. It reminded her of the stories her grandmother used to tell, tales of brave princesses and clever tricksters. And then, in her mind, a new image bloomed, as vivid as the gazelle's fur: Scheherazade. The legendary storyteller, who wove a thousand and one nights of tales to save her own life. Danguolė imagined Scheherazade, her eyes sparkling with mischief and wisdom, her voice a silken thread weaving magic into the darkness. Could she, Danguolė, also have stories hidden inside her, stories waiting to be told? The thought was both thrilling and a little frightening.
