They knew I was here, somewhere in this vast, shimmering expanse of the desert. The wind whipped my hair across my face, stinging my eyes, and I blinked back tears of exhaustion and fear. Lyra’s worried face flashed in my mind, her promise to create a diversion a fragile shield against the gnawing dread in my gut. I had to believe she’d succeeded.

My fingers, still stained with the vibrant dyes of my village loom, twitched. My new, terrifying gift pulsed beneath my skin, a restless energy yearning for release. Kael’s words, spoken in hushed tones beneath the starlit sky, echoed in my ears: *“The threads of fate are not merely woven, Elara. They are shaped by probability, by the currents of chance. Learn to nudge them, and you can redirect the river.”* Nudge the river. That’s what I needed to do.
