The air in the Parisian apartment hummed with a nervous energy, a stark contrast to the usual cozy chaos Kai’s toys brought. Alex, hunched over their laptop, tapped furiously, the glow of the screen reflecting in their wide, determined eyes. Kai, perched on a stool nearby, chewed thoughtfully on the end of a pencil, a half-finished drawing of a curious bird with too many eyes spread out before them. The sticker, now laminated and pinned to a corkboard, seemed to pulse with its own secrets, the myriad of addresses and symbols a silent symphony of intrigue.

“Another dead end, Kai,” Alex sighed, running a hand through their already messy hair. “This symbol here, it’s supposed to be a marker for a drop-off point in a small town in Italy, but every search I do… nothing. It’s like the whole place just vanished.”

Kai tilted their head, their gaze drifting from the drawing to the corkboard. “But the bird’s eyes are all looking at different things, Alex. Maybe the symbol isn’t just a symbol. Maybe it’s pointing to something else.”
