Chapter 8
When the Music Fades
The air in the city square buzzed with an energy Lily had never felt before. It was the day of the grand festival, a kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and smells that usually overwhelmed her. But today, with Sparkle nestled safely in her arms, a different kind of excitement bubbled within her. Sparkle’s painted eyes seemed to gleam with anticipation, his stitched smile wider than usual. Lily smoothed down her simple dress, her heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against her ribs. “He’s very loud,” Sparkle seemed to whisper, a subtle rustle of his fabric that Lily understood as clearly as words.
