Okay, so Leo and I were sprawled out on my bedroom floor, surrounded by a veritable mountain range of discarded comic books and half-eaten bags of chips. The faint, lingering scent of burnt toast from Mrs. Higgins’s disastrous attempt at crumpets earlier that morning still tickled my nose – a constant reminder of the general chaos my senses usually processed. We’d just wrapped up our little ghost-busting adventure, which, honestly, had been WAY more exciting than I'd anticipated. Turns out, Bartholomew ‘Barty’ Buttercup, our resident grumpy phantom, wasn't so much a menace as he was a culinary crisis in spectral form. His prized biscuit recipe, the one that apparently tasted like sunshine and happy memories, had been accidentally tossed out with the recycling. The ensuing gnome-nappings and spontaneous polka outbreaks were just his theatrical way of getting attention. Very dramatic, even for a ghost.

Leo, bless his video-game-addled brain, was mid-explanation about the intricate lore of "Galactic Gladiators VII: Nebula’s Nemesis," a game so complex it made tax forms look like a coloring book. “And then, Elara,” he declared, his eyes wide with the fervor of a true gamer, “the Quantum Quokka, right? It *absorbs* the energy from the void and then *unleashes* it as a sonic boom! It’s totally overpowered, but you have to strategize, you know? It’s not just button-mashing.”

I nodded, trying to look engaged, but my mind was doing its usual Elara-thing, flitting between Leo’s animated gestures, the low hum of the refrigerator downstairs, and the faint, anxious flutter of a robin trapped somewhere in the eaves of the house.
