The Shifting Sands of Quadrant One
Their first destination is a region influenced by Quadrant One. They find the area in disarray, with unnatural weather patterns, confirming the Obsidian Hand's interference.
The air in the Northern Reaches tasted of dust and desperation. Elara pulled her cloak tighter, the rough wool a small comfort against the biting wind that seemed to carry the sting of a thousand tiny needles. Beside her, Kael’s jaw was set, his gaze sweeping the horizon with a practiced wariness that Elara was beginning to recognize as a permanent fixture of his demeanor. They had arrived at their first destination, a place said to be deeply attuned to the celestial energies of Quadrant One. If the whispers of Master Eldrin’s notes were to be believed, this was where the first tremors of the Obsidian Hand’s meddling would be most evident.
And evident they were. The land itself seemed to groan under an unseen pressure. What should have been rolling hills carpeted in hardy, wind-swept grasses were instead a chaotic mess of cracked earth and stunted, skeletal trees. The sky, a bruised and angry purple, churned with clouds that moved with a disquieting speed, as if pursued by an unseen force. A sudden downpour, heavy and cold, lashed at them for a few minutes before abruptly ceasing, leaving behind a shimmering, unnatural stillness.
“This isn’t natural,” Elara murmured, her voice barely audible above the lingering moan of the wind. She knelt, running a gloved hand over the parched soil. It crumbled to dust between her fingers, devoid of any moisture, despite the recent rain. “The earth here… it feels wrong. Like it’s been wrung dry.”
