The Obsidian Hand captures Kael, using him to lure Elara into a confrontation. Silas Vane attempts to break Elara's spirit, revealing his personal vendetta against balance.
The air in the cavern was thick with a silence that pressed in, heavy and suffocating. Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage. Kael was here, somewhere, and the Obsidian Hand had him. The knowledge settled like a cold stone in her gut, a bitter counterpoint to the warmth of Master Eldrin’s last, hidden message. He had warned of trials, of sacrifices, but his words had been veiled, like a poorly drawn map with crucial landmarks smudged. Now, the smudges were becoming terrifyingly clear.
She crept forward, her boots crunching softly on the loose gravel of the cavern floor. The torchlight flickered, casting dancing shadows that seemed to mock her resolve. Each step was a negotiation with fear. Eldrin’s final note, tucked within a worn celestial atlas, had spoken of a nexus, a place where the currents of the quadrants met, a convergence point. This must be it. And Kael, the cynical, pragmatic Kael, her reluctant ally, was the bait.
“Elara,” a voice rasped, strained and weak. It was Kael.
