Lillypad knew, deep down, that this was going to be the hardest task yet. Task number four. Cathy had explained it simply in their dream-meeting, her voice like chimes carried on a summer breeze: "You must find the courage to speak, little one. Share your heart with the world, even if it’s just a tiny corner of it to start." But Lillypad’s heart fluttered like a trapped butterfly whenever she thought about speaking in front of anyone, even her reflection. Her voice, usually so clear when she sang to her stuffed animals or whispered secrets to her teddy bear, felt small and shaky at the mere thought of being heard.

She clutched a crumpled piece of paper in her hand, the words of a poem she’d written herself, a poem about the shimmering wings of a dragonfly and the secrets whispered by the wind. It felt silly, sharing something so personal, especially when her voice felt like it might squeak like a mouse.

“Okay,” she whispered to her reflection, her voice barely audible. “We can do this. It’s just… you.” She took a deep breath, trying to channel Cathy’s serene strength. “You have to speak, Lillypad. You have to let the words out.”
