Reigniting the Spark
The air in the cavern was thick with a palpable despair, a heavy shroud that clung to Elara like the damp moss on the ancient stones. The electric serpent, usually a vibrant tapestry of crackling light, was now a muted, flickering ember, its once-powerful hum a pathetic whisper. Elara’s heart ached with each dimming pulse. This was more than just a failing light; it was the fading pulse of her world, the slow death of everything she held dear.
She reached out, her fingers trembling, and laid them against the cool, smooth surface of the cavern wall. The serpent’s energy, once a comforting warmth that seeped into her very bones, now felt like a distant memory. She could still feel its presence, a faint thrumming beneath the surface of her awareness, but it was weak, a shadow of its former glory.
“What is happening?” she murmured, her voice barely audible in the vast space. “Why are you fading?”
