The air in the sacred cavern thrummed with a desperate energy, a stark contrast to the usual serene pulse that had cradled Elara’s village for generations. The Electric Serpent, its luminous coils usually a beacon of unwavering, gentle light, now writhed and spasmed, its glow flickering like a dying ember. Each surge of errant energy sent tremors through the crystalline walls, and Elara, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, could feel the serpent’s distress as if it were her own. It was a pain that clawed at her, a fear that seeped into her very bones.
“It’s getting worse,” Kaelen, his brow furrowed with a worry that mirrored her own, murmured from beside her. His hand rested on her shoulder, a grounding weight in the chaos.
Elara nodded, her gaze fixed on the agitated serpent. Its usual soft, melodic hum had devolved into a discordant whine, a sound that spoke of immense suffering. She reached out, not with her hands, but with her mind, her will. She sent waves of calm, of reassurance, of love, the same way she always did. But this time, her thoughts seemed to dissipate against a wall of agitated energy, like pebbles tossed into a storm-tossed sea.
