Chapter 5

The Forbidden Grove

10 min read

The air in the Forbidden Grove hung thick and heavy, a palpable presence that clung to Elara’s skin like a damp shroud. It was a stark contrast to the vibrant, pulsing luminescence of her village, a place where even the shadows seemed to hum with a gentle, living light. Here, the darkness was absolute, a suffocating blanket that swallowed the faintest glimmer. Elara clutched the smooth, cool stone of the serpent’s amulet, its familiar warmth a meager comfort against the encroaching chill. The path had narrowed, the familiar bioluminescent mosses and fungi giving way to gnarled, skeletal trees whose branches clawed at the sky like desperate hands. The air grew colder, the silence deeper, until they stood at the edge of the Forbidden Grove, a place where the very earth seemed to hold its breath.
