Elara sat by the hearth, the embers casting dancing shadows on her face, her fingers tracing the rough grain of the wooden table. “The land remembers,” Maeve had said, her voice a dry rustle of leaves, “and it grieves. What is happening now is not new, child. It is the echo of a wound that never healed.”

Until now.
