The air in Elder Maeve’s cottage was thick with the scent of dried herbs and something else, something ancient and resonant that clung to the very timbers of the small dwelling. Outside, the blight continued its insidious crawl across the barren fields, a silent testament to the encroaching despair. Elara sat across from Maeve, her hands clenched in her lap, the chill of the encroaching darkness seeping into her bones despite the hearth’s meager warmth. The fragmented echoes she had coaxed from the earth, the whispers of a forgotten sorrow, had left her unsettled, a disquiet that gnawed at her peace.
