The motorcycle coughed, a rasping, metallic groan that vibrated through Elara’s bones. Anya watched, her small hands clenched into fists, as her grandfather coaxed the ancient machine back to life. Dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight that pierced the gloom of the makeshift workshop, a cavernous space carved into the side of a forgotten quarry. The air tasted of oil, rust, and the faint, sweet scent of the desert bloom Elara had tucked behind Anya’s ear.

“Almost there, little sprout,” Elara murmured, his voice raspy with exertion. He wiped a greasy hand across his brow, leaving a dark smear. “This old beauty has more fight in her than half the folks in the settlement.”

Anya nodded, her gaze fixed on the gleaming chrome of the sidecar. It was a strange, beautiful thing, a relic from a time when the world hummed with a different kind of energy. The Dust Road Legacy, Elara called it. A machine that held the secrets to a greener, more vibrant world. He’d told her stories, whispered tales of sky-high trees and rivers that sang, all carried within the heart of this very motorcycle.
