The air crackled, not with the familiar hum of Valerius’s controlled magic, but with a raw, untamed energy that vibrated deep within Elara’s bones. She coughed, the acrid smoke stinging her lungs, and pushed herself up from the cold stone floor. Valerius loomed over her, his face a mask of grim satisfaction, the stolen dragon heart pulsing faintly in his hand. He had taken it from Ignis, ripped from his chest with a cruel twist of dark magic, a violation that had unleashed a primal scream from the young dragon that had echoed through the very foundations of the mountains.

“Foolish girl,” Valerius rasped, his voice rough with exertion and triumph. “You thought you could defy me? This is the power you sought to control. This is the blood that will awaken what slumbers.”

Elara’s gaze flickered to the small, trembling form of Ignis, huddled near the cave entrance, his scales dulled, his normally bright eyes clouded with pain and fear. A guttural growl rumbled in his chest, a sound too small for his magnificent frame, and Elara’s heart ached with a fierce, protective rage. She had seen him hurt before, had felt his pain as her own during their bond, but this… this was a desecration.
