Chapter 13
Vane's True Motives
Through intercepted communications, Elara and Alex learn Silas Vane believes controlling the algorithm means controlling the future. He sees it as a tool for ultimate power and order.
Elara’s fingers danced across the holographic keyboard, the familiar glow reflecting in her wide, determined eyes. Beside her, Alex, their neon-streaked hair a vibrant contrast to the muted glow of Elara’s makeshift lab, hunched over a tangle of wires and glowing circuits. The air crackled with a nervous energy, a silent hum of anticipation that had settled over them since their escape from OmniCorp’s sprawling data fortress. They were deep underground, in a disused subway station that Alex had transformed into a surprisingly functional sanctuary, a haven hidden from the prying eyes of Silas Vane and his relentless security chief, Agent Thorne.
“Anything, Alex?” Elara whispered, her voice tight with a mixture of hope and apprehension. They had managed to snag a data packet during their hasty retreat, a fragment of OmniCorp’s internal communications, and now they were painstakingly piecing it together, hoping for a glimpse into Vane’s mind.
Alex let out a low whistle, their fingers flying across a secondary console, cross-referencing the intercepted data with known OmniCorp communication protocols. “Whoa, Elara. This isn’t just about money. Vane… he’s not just after your algorithm for profit. He sees it as the ultimate lever.”
