Alex, perched on a stool amidst the organised chaos, had their fingers flying across a keyboard, their face illuminated by the cascading lines of code on multiple screens. Elara watched, a knot of anxiety tightening in her stomach. They had escaped OmniCorp’s grasp, that much was true, but the digital tendrils of Silas Vane’s empire felt long and suffocating.
“Anything, Alex?” Elara asked, her voice a little rough. She rubbed her temples, the phantom echo of Agent Thorne’s boots still ringing in her ears.
Alex didn’t look up, but a ghost of a smile played on their lips. “Patience, my dear Elara. The digital underworld is like a vast, interconnected city. You don’t just knock on the front door; you find the secret alleyways, the hidden tunnels.” Alex gestured to a screen displaying a complex, pulsating web. “I’ve sent out the signal. The network is buzzing.”
