The air in Oakhaven still hummed with the aftermath of battle, a strange, quiet echo where yesterday had thundered with desperate courage. The encroaching shadows, so vast and terrifying, had receded, pushed back by the unified will of the villagers and the mysterious power Elara had unearthed. Yet, as Elara stood by the village square, her gaze fell upon the ancient counter. Its digits, though no longer racing with frantic speed, still ticked. One by one, the small, carved souls within its intricate mechanism continued to fall, a silent testament that the darkness, though repelled, was not vanquished.

A knot of unease tightened in Elara’s chest. She had expected a victory, a definitive end to the creeping dread. Instead, there was only a fragile peace, a temporary reprieve that felt more like a held breath than true safety. The dust of the recent conflict still settled on the cobblestones, mingling with the scent of scorched earth and something else… something Elara couldn't quite name, a faint, lingering chill that the warm sun couldn’t quite dispel.

Elder Maeve approached, her steps slow and deliberate, her eyes, usually sharp and knowing, seemed to hold a deeper, more ancient sorrow today. “The light has returned, child,” she said, her voice a gentle murmur that carried the weight of years. “And Oakhaven stands.”
