Chapter 5
The First Thread
Elara finds a hidden compartment in the puzzle box, revealing an old journal. Its entries speak of a secret society and a dangerous plan, directly linking the puzzle to a brewing conspiracy.
The wooden puzzle box, once a source of mild distraction, now pulsed with an unsettling significance. With a soft click that echoed in the quiet room, a section of the base, no bigger than her palm, slid inward.
Her breath hitched. Inside the newly revealed compartment lay a small, leather-bound journal, its pages brittle and yellowed with age. The scent of aged paper and forgotten ink filled the air, a potent perfume of history. Hesitantly, she lifted it out. The cover was plain, unadorned, a stark contrast to the ornate puzzle box it had resided within.
