Someone knows Elias possesses the Chronicle. He narrowly escapes an attempt to steal it, realizing the organization is actively hunting him.

The air in my apartment, usually thick with the scent of stale coffee and ambition, now buzzed with a different kind of energy – pure, unadulterated fear. It had started subtly, a flicker of movement in my peripheral vision as I’d locked up the office, a car that seemed to linger a moment too long on my street. Then, the insistent, almost predatory thud of footsteps behind me as I’d hurried home, the Chronicle, tucked securely in my satchel, feeling like a lead weight.

I double-checked the locks, my hands shaking. The worn leather of the satchel felt alien, no longer a repository of ancient secrets but a beacon drawing unwanted attention. The bold, almost arrogant strokes of the ‘V’ – the symbol of the syndicate, etched into the Chronicle’s cover – seemed to pulse in the dim light of my living room. They knew. Somehow, they knew I had it.

A sharp rap on the door made me jump, my heart leaping into my throat. My breath hitched. This wasn't a friendly knock; it was the sound of a predator testing its prey. I froze, straining to hear over the frantic drumming in my ears. Silence. Then, another rap, harder this time, followed by a low, guttural scraping sound, like something heavy being dragged against the wood. They weren’t here to ask for it back.
