Chapter 18
Echoes of the Chronicle
The immediate threat is averted, but the organization's network is vast. Elias knows the fight isn't over, only the first chapter.
The adrenaline still hummed in my veins, a frantic drumbeat against the sudden, deafening silence. The frantic shouts, the panicked scramble for exits, the sickening lurch of the market floor – it had all dissolved into a stunned quiet. The immediate threat, the orchestrated cascade of bankruptcies and panicked sell-offs designed to cripple the global economy, had been blunted. The Chronicle, that ancient repository of manipulation, had shown us the pattern, and somehow, through a whirlwind of frantic analysis, a hastily assembled team, and more luck than I cared to admit, we’d managed to disrupt the dominoes before they could fall.

"Elias," a voice, raspy and ancient, cut through my thoughts. I looked up to see the Archivist standing a few feet away, their form almost blending into the shadows cast by the towering columns. They wore the same nondescript, timeless clothes, and their eyes, even in the dim light, seemed to hold an unsettling depth of understanding.
