Chapter 8: The Fractured Truth
Xander, Lena, Kylie, and Elara race to the extraction point, but the resistance cell Kylie trusted betrays them, revealing a Syndicate double agent. After a brutal fight, they barely escape the exploding facility, only to discover that the severed resonance has left Kylie dangerously unstable. A new threat emerges as a Syndicate fleet enters the system.
The corridor blurred around Xander as he ran, Kylie's hand still clasped in his. The explosion's shockwaves rumbled through the facility, and the alarms blared a discordant symphony. Lena led the group, her blaster raised, while Elara kept pace beside them, her face pale but determined.
"Two minutes to the hangar," Lena shouted over the noise. "Ryn is waiting."
Xander's legs burned, but he pushed harder. The severed resonance left a hollow ache in his chest, a gap where his sister's presence had been. Yet he felt lighter, free of the invisible leash. Kylie stumbled beside him, her breaths ragged. He tightened his grip on her hand. "Hold on, Kyl. We're almost there."
