The shuttle hummed as it streaked through the void, its interior dimly lit by emergency panels. Xander sat with his back against the cold metal wall, the datapad clutched in his hands like a lifeline. Across from him, Lena cleaned a scrape on her arm, her movements mechanical, her eyes distant. Ryn was at the controls, muttering curses at the navigation console. Elara sat near the back, her cybernetic implants flickering as she reviewed the data on her own device.
Xander's mind replayed the image of Kylie in that pod—small, fragile, a weapon waiting to be fired. He felt the resonance inside him, a faint pulse that reminded him of her presence. He had to save her. But the cost… He pushed the thought away.
"Xander." Lena's voice was soft. She had moved closer without him noticing. "You need to rest. We have hours before we reach Omega-7."
