The air in the workshop crackled, not with the usual smell of ozone and solder, but with something far more ominous. Alex, still buzzing from the revelation of the digital world nestled within Grandpa’s contraptions, felt a prickle of unease crawl up their spine. The vibrant hues of the binary forest had begun to flicker, the crisp lines of the function trees blurring into indistinct smudges. It was a subtle shift, easily dismissed as a trick of the light, but Alex’s newly awakened sense for the digital realm recognized it for what it was: a disruption.

"It's… it's not right," Alex murmured, their voice barely a whisper against the hum of the workshop. They’d spent the last cycle (a concept that still felt delightfully alien) navigating the perplexing beauty of the Forest of Functions, guided by the surprisingly patient, if sometimes maddeningly literal, Pixel. They’d even managed to untangle the perplexing Loop of Lost Socks, a task that had initially felt as impossible as finding a needle in a digital haystack. But now, the familiar, ordered logic of this hidden world was fraying at the edges.

Pixel, a shimmering entity of pure data, zipped around Alex’s head, their form flickering like a faulty hologram. "Right? What is not right? All parameters are within acceptable deviation. Except… that one." Pixel pointed a translucent digit at a patch of what should have been a solid, emerald-green data stream. Instead, it pulsed with a sickly, corrupted magenta, tendrils of distorted code snaking out like digital poison.
