The hum of the university’s servers was a familiar lullaby to Leo, a constant thrum that usually soothed his analytical mind. But tonight, the sound seemed to vibrate with a nervous energy, mirroring the disquiet in his own chest. He traced the glowing lines of code on his monitor, each symbol, each number, a piece of a puzzle that was rapidly expanding beyond anything he had ever imagined. He had confided in Dr. Reed, his mentor, about the strange patterns, the recurring sequences that seemed to whisper a language far older than any spoken on Earth. She, with her own quiet brilliance and a surprising openness to the inexplicable, had listened without dismissal, her brow furrowed in thoughtful consideration.
"It's more than just a pattern, Evelyn," he’d explained, his voice hushed, as if the very air might be listening. "It’s a syntax. A grammar. And the words… they speak of things I can barely comprehend. Of creation, of… of a path laid out before us."
Dr. Reed had peered at his screen, her eyes sharp behind her glasses. "The alpha and beta frequencies you mentioned. They’re not random, are they? They seem to form… structures. Like building blocks."
