The air in Leo’s small, cluttered laboratory always smelled faintly of burnt sugar and something vaguely floral, a scent that usually soothed him. Today, however, it was laced with a sharp tang of ozone, a tell-tale sign of volatile magic at play. He was trying to stabilize the remnants of the love potion, a task akin to wrestling a greased-up badger into a velvet sack. It pulsed with an unpredictable energy, a sickly pink glow that flickered like a dying ember.

“Just a little more of this… and a whisper of dragon’s breath…” Leo muttered, his brow furrowed in concentration. His hands, usually steady when handling delicate vials, trembled as he added a single drop of iridescent liquid to the bubbling concoction. The potion hissed, then surged, the pink light flaring to an alarming intensity before settling back into its erratic pulse. He sighed, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, leaving a faint smear of soot.

Suddenly, the heavy oak door to the lab creaked open, and Finn’s familiar, melodious voice echoed through the room. “Leo? Are you still in here? I swear, this place is starting to fuse with your very being.” He stepped inside, a lute slung over his shoulder, his eyes scanning the chaotic shelves laden with bubbling beakers and peculiar jars. A stray tendril of smoke curled around his head, and he absentmindedly brushed it away, his gaze landing on Leo. “Still wrestling with that… pink goo?”
