Chapter 19
Anticipation Grows
The anticipation for their child's arrival becomes a palpable energy between Elesky and Markov, their love story now infused with the sweet promise of new life.
The soft glow of the morning sun, a familiar visitor to their bedroom, painted stripes of gold across Elesky’s face. She stirred, a gentle sigh escaping her lips, and nestled closer into the warmth of Markov’s arm. Seven years. Seven years of waking up like this, of the easy rhythm of their breathing syncing, of a love that had bloomed from youthful infatuation into a deep, contented certainty. Yet, lately, a subtle hum had begun beneath the surface of that certainty, a quiet yearning for a melody yet to be composed. It wasn’t dissatisfaction, not by any stretch. Their life together was a tapestry woven with threads of shared laughter, quiet understanding, and the constant, unwavering affection that had been their bedrock since they were barely more than children themselves. But sometimes, in the hushed moments before sleep, or during long walks hand-in-hand through their favorite park, Elesky found herself tracing the edges of their present, wondering about the shape of their future. A future that felt both vast and, in a way, still undefined.
Markov’s hand tightened almost imperceptibly around her waist. He was a creature of gentle intuition, his perceptive gaze often catching the unspoken thoughts that flickered across Elesky’s mind. He’d always been that way, able to read the subtle shifts in her mood, the almost imperceptible tilt of her head that spoke volumes. He stirred then, his own eyes blinking open, a slow smile spreading across his face as he met her gaze.
“Morning, my love,” he murmured, his voice still thick with sleep, a melody that always sent a shiver of pure contentment through her. He brushed a stray strand of her blonde hair from her cheek, his touch as tender as it had been all those years ago when he’d first dared to hold her hand.
