Today, however, it felt different, imbued with a strange, expectant magic. Markov sat beside her, his hand a warm anchor on her knee, his usual easy smile replaced by a quiet intensity. They had come to Dr. Anton for a routine check-up, a desire for reassurance that had bloomed in Elesky’s heart over the past few weeks, a delicate, unvoiced longing that had mirrored something she’d sensed in Markov too.
Dr. Anton, a man whose kindness radiated from his gentle eyes and the crinkles at their corners, cleared his throat. He held a small file, his fingers tapping it softly. “Elesky,” he began, his voice soft, but carrying the weight of profound significance, “the tests… they are quite clear.”
Elesky held her breath, her gaze locked on his. The world outside the window, with its dappled sunlight and the distant chirping of birds, seemed to fade into a hazy blur.
