Chapter 18
The Master's Sacrifice
A final revelation about Master Thorne shows his actions were meant to protect Elara and the world, guiding her towards her destiny.
The air in the hidden chamber crackled with an energy Elara hadn't felt since the day she’d been cast out. Dust motes danced in the single beam of light piercing the gloom, illuminating ancient scrolls and forgotten alchemical tools. It was here, within the secret sanctum Master Thorne had kept veiled from even his most trusted apprentices, that Elara sought answers. The Faberlic pulsed softly against her skin, a warm, comforting weight, as if urging her forward. She traced the intricate carvings on a stone pedestal, her fingers brushing against a nearly invisible seam. With a soft click, a hidden compartment sprang open.

Nestled within the locket’s confines was a miniature portrait, faded with age, of a younger Master Thorne, his eyes kind and full of a familiar spark. But beside him, looking even younger, was a woman Elara didn’t recognize, her smile radiant, her hand resting protectively on a small, swaddled bundle.
Beneath the portrait, etched in delicate script, were words Elara’s heart ached to comprehend: "For my Elara, should the shadows ever claim her light. Your mother's courage, your father's wisdom. Guard it well."
