Chapter 14
The Heart of the Matter
Elara discovers the Obsidian Hand's ultimate goal: to corrupt the world's magical core. The Faberlic is the key to either protecting or destroying it.
The air in Elara’s small workshop, usually thick with the comforting scent of simmering herbs and polished metal, now felt heavy, charged with a dread that had nothing to do with her own past failures. She held the Faberlic bottle, its glass cool against her trembling fingers. The ethereal flowers etched into its surface seemed to pulse with a faint, internal light, as if mirroring the frantic beat of her own heart. The visions, so vivid and terrifying, had coalesced into a single, horrifying truth. The Obsidian Hand didn’t just want power; they wanted to extinguish it.
They sought the Lumina Core, the very heart of their world’s magic, nestled deep beneath the Whispering Peaks. And the Obsidian Hand intended to poison it, to twist its pure light into a shadow that would choke the life out of everything. The Faberlic, Elara now understood with a chilling certainty, was the key. Not just to forgotten memories, but to the Lumina Core itself. It could be used to protect it, to shield it from the encroaching darkness, or, in the wrong hands, to shatter it entirely.
A sharp rap at the door startled her, making the Faberlic jump in her grasp. She quickly tucked it into the inner pocket of her worn tunic, its smooth coolness a stark contrast to the sudden heat flushing her cheeks. “Who is it?” she called out, her voice a little shaky.
