The address was to my grandmother’s house, the one where I had spent those summers in the attic, where the photographs whispered and the old clock ticked like a heartbeat. My mother had written it before she left, before she chose the road that led away from us, before she became a name spoken only in hushed tones.

When I finally slid my finger under the seal, the paper inside was thin, almost transparent, covered in her hurried script. The words were not what I expected. They were not apologies or explanations. They were instructions, of a sort—a list of things she had never told me, places she had hidden pieces of herself like a map drawn in invisible ink.
