"It's louder now, Silas," Elias murmured, his voice barely audible above the rising murmur of the crowd. They stood on the edge of the main square, a space usually reserved for quiet contemplation or the occasional, somber market day. Tonight, it was a sea of faces, a tapestry woven with apprehension, curiosity, and a deep, unsettling guilt. Lanterns cast long, dancing shadows, illuminating the cobblestones that had witnessed so much, yet remembered so little, until now.
Silas nodded, his gaze sweeping over the assembled townsfolk. "They're listening, Elias. They have to, now. That… document. It changes everything." He referred to the brittle, ink-stained ledger they had unearthed from the hidden compartment in the old munitions factory, the one that laid bare the brutal truth of the forgotten war, the one that Elias’s spectral whispers had been trying to reveal for so long. The ledger detailed the systematic silencing of dissent, the calculated erasure of lives deemed inconvenient, all in the name of a manufactured peace.
